SPB to sing for a good cause

Come June 5, renowned musician and playback singer S.P. Balasubramaniam will take Chennai by storm with his enthralling voice at a show called Chillunnu Oru Evening, organised by Sakhi, a cancer support group, founded by oncologist Dr Sumana Premkumar.

True to his philanthropic nature, the evergreen singer agreed to perform at the concert free of cost. “As soon as I approached him through my friend for this fund-raising programme for cancer-afflicted patients, the legendary singer, without asking even a single question, gladly agreed to be a part of it. He immediately said that he would not accept any remuneration since it was for a worthy cause and asked me the date on which he was required to perform, so that he could ensure it did not clash with his other recordings. It was truly amazing and I was touched by his humility. All I could do was to thank him profusely,” reveals Dr Sumana, who is also the Center Head of ‘Penn Nalam’, a facility which helps cancer patients and their families.

Popular songs of the veteran will be sung on the occasion and several film personalities have also extended their support and agreed to participate in the event. The evergreen singer will also be honoured with the title, Sakhi Living Legend Award, on the occasion, disclosed Dr Sumana.
